About DGA Golf Disc Plastics
DGA Disc Golf Disc Plastics
About Our Plastics
DGA currently distributes two different lines of plastics. While these plastics can sometimes be generally referred to as “beginner” and “Pro” plastic it’s important to understand each type of plastic and figure out what the plastic blends can do for your golf game. The DGA offers a beginner type plastic blend that we call our “RDGA” line and once you have gotten the hang of those type of discs we recommend that you move on to our “ProLine” plastic blend.
RDGA Disc Plastic Blend
Chances are you’ll start your disc golfing career with RDGA style plastic and by the end of your life you’ll come full circle and the last discs you throw will be RDGA type plastic. “Steady” Ed Headrick knew this all along and that’s why all the way up until the end he focused on throwing RDGA plastic and marketing RDGA discs and plastic blends to beginners and old timers like himself . RDGA plastic can also be referred to as “D” plastic or “Old School” plastic. When the beveled edge disc was first introduced in 1982, this “RDGA” or “D” plastic was all that was available and the players loved it because it gave them more control and durability than ever before.
Our RDGA line offers a good selection of affordably priced discs that work great for anybody looking for more control and more fairway friendly shots. We call them the RDGA line because it is the preferred type of plastic and disc molds for the Recreational Disc Golf Association. We strongly recommend these discs for players of all age that are just picking up the sport. They will have much better results if they start with this type of disc and move into the professional models after a season or two. These are our best selling discs among schools, churches, and campgrounds. All RDGA® discs are produced at 150 grams and provide the thrower with added grip especially in wet and rainy conditions. RDGA plastic discs will wear in with usage, and over time will eventually take on new more understable flight characteristics. Most of our sponsored players who throw RDGA plastic will carry several RDGA discs at various stages of wear. They will use different ones depending if they want a more overstable or understable finish on the end of their flight. All of our RDGA plastic discs are available for foil custom stamping. Models in this line include: RDGA Flathead Cyclone, RDGA Superdrive XL, RDGA Squall, and RDGA Reef.
ProLine Disc Plastic Blend
In the mid 90’s the disc golf scene took a giant leap forward in technology with the introduction of “Indestructible” or “Pro” style plastics. While not quite as grippy as earlier “D” plastic blends this new plastic type gave disc golfers more distance and ultimately more consistency as this new style of plastic could be played with for multiple seasons and still fly exactly the way it did on the day you bought it. It also provided the sport with some legitimacy that it needed. Giving players a professional line of discs that could be geared to a new emerging market of serious disc golf professionals.
In 2003, DGA teamed up with Discraft to produce our own line of professional golf discs that we began marketing as our “ProLine” golf discs. Our ProLine plastic blend is our premium line of discs. This line of discs is recommended for players that have been playing for one year or more. Some players refer to this type of plastic as indestructible plastic, this is the type of disc that almost every professional player uses. Advantages to the ProLine style plastic are increased durability which helps maintain its flight characteristics and more glide than our RDGA discs. ProLine plastic discs can be foil hotstamped like our RDGA discs but they can also have full color stamping on them which makes them a favorite for tournaments across the country. All of our DGA Dyes are done on ProLine discs. Models in this line include: Tsunami, Rogue, Riptide, Shockwave, Squall, and Titanic.
