The Different Type of Disc Golf Disc Types.

Drivers

Just like in ball golf you use different equipment for different situations you might encounter on the golf course. Typically disc golfers when teeing off on a hole over 250 Ft in distance will use a driver. A driver is a low profile disc that's more like a discus than a Frisbee. Players are able to throw this disc from the tee pad and achieve maximum distance. There have been a lot of advancements in disc technology over the past 10-20 years and today's maximum distance drivers are reaching faster speeds and longer distances than ever before. It should be noted that if it's your first time playing you would probably get the best results from starting off with a midrange disc as opposed to a driver. Drivers, especially maximum distance drivers can be hard to control for the novice disc golfer. A fairway driver is between a midrange and a long distance driver in its flight characteristics. A fairway driver is a driver that is designed to keep you on the fairway while still getting “driver” distance you need to compete at a high level.

Midrange

A midrange disc is a disc design that is between a driver and a putter. Like its name this disc is used for fairway shots or throws when you are “midrange from the basket”. Of course you can use this type of disc off the tee pad for short drives and to give yourself added control but most midrange shots are true approach shots taken after your drive when you are trying to get very close to the basket so you don’t have a long putt.

Putters

A putter is usually a smaller diameter disc that has a traditional Frisbee shape. This domey profile slows the disc down so you don't over shoot the basket and its thick blunt or rounded edge is designed to catch chains and fall in to the basket. While you may drive with a midrange or a putter on a short hole almost every serious disc golfer putts with a designed putter for the majority of their putts. Certain exceptions might be made if you have very strong wind or a midrange disc that you trust. Putters can come in a variety of plastic blends that range from super gummy like out BlowFly 1™ mold to a harder more rigid plastic blend like our ProLine Titanic™.
